Winters along the Wasatch Front can be hard on a water feature, but a little preparation goes a long way.
Trim back plants
Cut back hardy marginals and remove any dying foliage before it sinks and decays.
Keep a hole in the ice
A small floating de-icer or an aerator keeps gases escaping so your koi stay healthy under the ice.
Protect your pump
If you shut the system down, pull the pump and store it in a bucket of water in the garage so the seals don't dry out.
